Amazon.com Product Description Strengthen your core with the simple, effective, and economical Double Ab Wheel by Ironman. This straightforward, inexpensive, and low-bulk piece of exercise equipment tones and builds strength in your core abdominal and back muscles, as well as your arm and shoulder muscles in one simple exercise. Composed of a sturdy metal post, two rolling wheels for stability, and rubber grips for comfort, the Ab Wheel is easy to disassemble and toss in a suitcase. Unlike bulky ab balls or chairs, the Ab Wheel can be stowed just about anywhere. Its rubber contoured handles provide a comfortable and secure grip and its double wheel provides stability. Extremely durable and smooth rolling, the Ab Wheel strengthens your abdominals from top to bottom as well as your back, arms, and shoulders through one fluid movement. To use the Ab Wheel, you start out on your knees with one hand on each grip. You then slowly roll the wheel out and away from your knees and continue going forward until your hands are beyond your head without touching the floor. You return to your starting position by pulling in with your abdominal muscles and arching your back. Unlike sit-ups and other targeted abdominal exercises, the Ab Wheel challenges more muscles groups in less time. Users of the Ab Wheel feel the exercise in their chest, upper and lower back, triceps, and biceps as well, improving their allover body strength and alignment, and find that they can achieve exciting results with fewer repetitions than with sit-ups and crunches. Very nice piece of equipment March 25, 2009 Maxwell It's cheap, durable and simple. The handle grips are comfortable, which allows me to be on the thing for up to 10 minutes no problem (my abs get tired before my hands do). It also handles carpeting with no problems. I don't have to worry about it tearing up any pieces after continual use.
I haven't become limber enough to move on to the proper ab curls with this thing, so I put my knees on the ground and crunch that way. After a few days I was already feeling the burn. I have to do it longer and longer to hurt now, but it's certainly doing it's job on my abs.
should be called Ironman Double back/shoulder Wheel... February 22, 2009 D. Flores 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love the wheel but the problem is that it works out your shoulders and back much faster/more than your abs. I found that I have to concentrate on my abs and core in order for this type of exercise (would be the same issue with any ab wheel) not to hurt my shoulders. Also the fact that I do 80 in a row from the kneeling position probably contributes to the shoulder feeling it more than my abs (it took me focusing on my core to achieve the higher reps). Though I focused on my core it still seems to do more for my lower back than my abs. This does not mean it doesn't work your abs but I believe the name of this is misleading.
Those who gave this wheel a low rating and stated that it should have a brake or you will fall on your face, your kind of missing the point of the exercise. Being able to perform a controlled movement to the prone position right above the floor is what really gets your muscles working. Having a brake would negate a lot of the benefits this exercise should provide.
Anyway, to sum it up. This is my first ab wheel so I cannot compare it to others. I can only say that it's a wheel that's sturdy that let's you perform the exercise it is intended for. It is very easy to assemble and no tools are necessary. I currently have it at my workplace and many people use it and it works as well as the day I bought it.
If your looking for an exercise to add to your core routine than this is very good. If you are thinking this is the end all to be all for ab workouts or using this thinking your going to lose weight, then you will be disappointed (if you really think that than save yourself some money and go for a 20 minute walk everyday and start with 10 situps and work up to 100 in a row).
BTW - The standing position is something you really have to train for specifically, not something you can do right out of the gates. It has to do more with back strength developed specifically to handle the force on the way down into the prone position, not so much getting back up from the prone position to standing.
Great for the core February 2, 2009 Lady S. (California, USA) A simple and inexpensive tool to strengthen those abs of yours. Study and reliable, the double wheel adds extra support to do its job. Easy to assemble and was quite a steal when I got it a year ago for less than $8. This simple machine is definitely worth the investment - it will go a long way and you can't go wrong with it.
Best Exercise To Do January 26, 2009 Jerry Johnson (Miami) The Ironman Double Ab Wheel facilitates accomplishing the best exercise to do for an overall workout and absolutely tightens the abs and helps to strenghten the back and arms.
