By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips. Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home. Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

Great trainer July 30, 2010 Dawn This is a great trainer!!, had a bit of a problem with the delivery but once that was staightened out the machine was relativly easy to put together, about 2 hours. Works great is stable and very strong. The best part was after it was delivered in damaged condition amazon.com stood behind it and made it right!!!!!
Some assembly required July 20, 2010 M. TAYLOR (Houston, TX) Nice machine, ellipse is a different shape than I am used to.
Putting it together was ridiculous! To my utter amazement one of the plastic bushings that the arms pivot on was too small for the axle to go through. Had to mill it to size, lucky I had a milling machine handy. One of the threads was damaged, had to retap it. So took almost an hour to assemble, without a home workshop assembly would have been a lot more difficult.
Better than most health club units July 16, 2010 Alex C. Cullison (Fairfax, VA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned 6 machines of this nature over the years. Some machines didn't make it past the first month. Some of my machines cost thousands of dollars and others around $300.
Dollar for dollar, this is the best machine I have ever owned. If I wanted to be super critical, it does have a little squeak I am trying to find and the footprint is a few inches bigger than my limited space would otherwise want; but otherwise it is a wonderful machine.
In ten minutes I am covered in perspiration; unlike my treadmill. It is simple to use, quiet, operates smoothly, well made, and a bargain compared to other similar units.
Would I buy another one; yes!
exellent cardio machine with small footprint July 16, 2010 Tan Wu (Las Vegas, NV) Bought it since it was ( and still is ) on sale on amazon for 599. So far it has been about 2 month ago, and love it! I live in a single apartment on third floor, so I was looking for a rather small machine with minimun noise and footprint. This one just fits the bill perfectly! I can squeeze this machine right in a corner of my living room and it does not stand out at all. The quality of the machine is great. Actually I like it more than the ellipticals in the gym I used to go to. This machine is very sturdy and seems to be able to last a long time. I use it for 4~5 times between 30 - 50 mins every week, with resistance betwen 6 to 10.
Did have a small issue with front horizontal axis right below the dispay where the two push-handle connect though. When I assmbled it, no matter how much I tightened the screw, there always seemed to be a little bit extra space ( about 1/16 inch ) between the horizonal axis and push-handle. So when I swing the handle with higher resistance, I feel and hear the metal of the push-bar clinking and bumping the horizonal metal bar. Kind of annoying but no big deal. Then last weekend I decided to deal with it by un-assemble it and stuck a small shredded cotton ball between one of the push-handle and the horizontal bar. Retightned the screen and problem solved! Now this machine is absolutely noise free and feels super smooth. :)
Also got the iron gym pull-up bar from amazon and it hangs from my door for upper body workout. Now I got everything covered basically since elliptical is great for lower-body and cardio workout. Not more high gym membership fees and I am getting into shape faster. :) It is great to be able to flip the TV channels and watch true blood on HBO while peddling this elliptical at home!
Too many problems for a new machine July 15, 2010 seattle98 We got this elliptical less than 4 months ago and in that time it has only worked correctly for about 2 weeks. First the box did not include the needed cables. Wait a few weeks for those to arrive, after they want the serial number which is so conveniently placed on the bottom of this 150 pound machine. Have to wait for the hubs to have time to help me get that. Cables finally arrive, we install them, use the elliptical for a few weeks. Then we started seeing the E-2 error. Wait a few weeks because we just didn't have time to deal with it. Play back and forth games with customer service telling us to go get all the cables and adapters tested at Radio Shack to make sure they are OK before they'll send us any parts. Why is this my problem? We work, have kids and a life and are busy. Send me the parts already. I'll be happy to return the ones I don't need, at Nautilus'(owner of Schwinn) expense. In the meantime I have a $600 piece of useless junk.
I strongly suggest taking your exercise-buying dollars to another company.
